Tell us how you first met? who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.

We first met at Steven’s welcome home from Afghanistan party in November, 2009 in Huntsville, Alabama.  Steven’s girlfriend and Amanda’s boyfriend at the time were friends, thus the spark started from then on.  Timing is everything – both of our relationships ended about a year and a half later, and that spark brought us back together around April, 2011.  It was rough on double dates during our relationships since it seemed like we would always be in a corner by ourselves.  We behaved ourselves throughout and took advantage of our recent failed relationships with each other. 🙂

When did you know he/she was the one? Was there something he/she did?, etc.

It all kind of stems from when we first met.  There was definite chemistry between us, and after we started dating it just felt right the whole time.  Around 10 months into our relationship we were looking at engagement rings “just for fun” – lol.  It all felt normal, exciting and amazing all at the same time- we finally found that one person we were meant to spend the rest of our lives with.

Tell us about the proposal. (Did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning?, how did you feel? nervous, excited, freaking out?)

The proposal was actually at Steven’s friends wedding May 5, 2013 in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Steven had planned it for a few weeks prior, knowing it would be the perfect opportunity to surprise Amanda during another one of our trips.  We stayed at the Crowne Plaza in the French Quarter and had a great time.  Amanda almost ruined the surprise on the Friday before Steven planned to pop the big question.  We both went to a very romantic dinner, drank probably more than we were supposed to and Amanda blurted out at dinner “I really thought you were going to ask me to marry you tonight!”.  Needless to say Steven had to think fast and totally blew it off, stating it wasn’t the right time… haha.  Steven was totally nervous the next day – started out with beignets at Cafe du Monde, ate lunch where the Muffaletta was invented, then Steven took Amanda on a leisurely stroll in Jackson Square and proposed in front of the St. Louis Cathedral.  Steven – “I’m not sure what I even said to be honest, had no idea what I was doing but tried to speak from the heart and recite what I tried to prepare and rehearse.  I just remember telling Amanda I was ready and asked her if she was ready to embark on this journey to Richmond, Virginia with me.”  Funny part – there was an older couple who witnessed the whole thing, took our picture, and then asked us right after “So, when’s the big day!?”

Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.

Steven – “What I love most about Amanda are the little things she does for me – be it making me coffee in the morning, picking me up stuff that I didn’t even know I or we needed at the store, or thinking about things I would love to do and planning unique things for us to do.  She has these moments to really put me back on my heels and I have to thank God that someone like her came into my life to try and rescue me from myself.”

Amanda – “What I love most about Steven is his positive outlook on life.  He always sees the positives in every situation and every person.  It makes me appreciate life more.”

If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky  the other person does.

Steven – “Amanda makes this sound kinda like Marge Simpson when she gets mad – she grunts like Marge does under her breath.  I’ve tried to copy it, but she’s the master of that sound.  No one can compete with her.  I’ve even invented an emoticon to show her making that noise –> -_-  To some that means displeased or whatnot, but that’s her grunting at me.”

Amanda – “Steven always practices his golf swing when he’s bored or nervous.  Let’s just say he was doing this a lot when we were first dating – not sure if he was bored or nervous…lol”

Besides getting married – whats the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?

“Honestly, seeing all of this long-term planning become a reality.  We have a lot of out-of-town friends and family that would never normally come together like this and having this time to spend with them, albeit short, will be amazing for us and everyone.  The wedding, to me, isn’t only about Amanda and I becoming one in marriage – it’s about all the friends and family that were a part of our lives to this point, and who will continue to love and support us going forward.  It’s going to be amazing and I can’t wait to witness all the good times to come….and who doesn’t love partying on a party bus in St. Louis and drinking where August Busch did years ago!!  Prost!!”
