Tell us how you first met?

We met our freshman year at the Lafayette Turn About dance. Sam went with a girl from LHS and I decided to go stag with the same group of friends. We talked all throughout dinner and flirted a little bit at the after party. We instantly became friends and started dating the beginning of our sophomore year.

When did you know he/she was the one? Was there something he/she did?

During our time at Mizzou, Sam and I briefly broke up. As any of our friends would tell you, neither of us were happy without the other in our life. Ironically, this time apart before we got back together was when we both knew for sure that we couldn’t be happy without the other, and the rest is history.

Tell us about the proposal. (Did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning?, how did you feel? nervous, excited, freaking out?)

With us being together for so long, we had already talked about marriage so the idea of a proposal was not a surprise. However, Sam really wanted to be able to surprise me so he had convinced me we would not be getting engaged for some time.

I left town with my sister and dad to run a half-marathon in Kansas City and had no idea what was about to happen. For some reason, I still had lots of energy at my 12th mile (which has never happened in any of my previous half-marathons) and left my dad to run by myself. When I crossed the finish line, I saw Sam and was so surprised to see him. A proposal was still not on my radar. Sam got done on one knee in front of a few thousand people and put my sister and I in a state of shock (I think she even knocked a runner over).

I never thought that Sam would be able to surprise me with a proposal. It was such an amazing moment that we love to look back on.

Tell is the one thing you love most about each other.

Rachel: how Sam always makes me laugh

Sam: seeing Rachel smile

If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does

Sam: Rachel brushes her teeth with 3x the normal amount of toothpaste, which results in her getting it all over herself

Rachel: Sam is being silly, goofy, or strange 98% of time. Normally whenever he comes home, he just starts serenading our puppy and I with some random song.

Besides getting married – whats the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?

We can’t wait to have all the people we care about and love being around all together at once. So many of our friends have moved away and gone their separate ways, and it could be years before we get this many people together all in one weekend.
